Cambridge America LLC
Cambridge America, with much experience, serves the needs of the exponentially expanding LED lighting market. Because LED efficiency is lost as temperatures increase, Cambridge America offers two distinct technologies for thermal management. Heat dissipation is accomplished on conventional FR-4 circuitry through the use of thermal vias, which transfer heat from the top side to a large heat dissipating copper plane on the bottom of the PCB. Hole plugging these thermal vias with various epoxy compounds is often employed. Modern LED's are typically of the Surface Mount Technology (SMT) design and lend themselves to our second technology: single sided aluminum core PCB's. These boards consist of a single copper conductor layer, a thin, typically 3-4 mil, thermal prepreg material as supplied by Berquist, Arlon, Totking, and others, and an aluminum heat sink usually from 30 to 130 mils thick. Cambridge America is favored by LED manufacturers because we have helped the board manufacturers develop, hole plugging techniques as well as the ability to reliably produce scored line technology in aluminum substrate.
